Shamanism is about connecting to the Universe in a very ancient, intimate and specialized way.  Scholars believe that Shamanism was the first form of human spirituality… a proto-religion.  Ancient Hunter/Gatherers were awed by the natural world and were deeply aware that the Earth, Sky and Universe were alive.  Reverence for the Spirits in all things and the formalized ability to communicate with them became the first religious expressions.  To live in the often hostile, natural world, humans needed all the help they could get.  Today, the threats we face are much different but dangerous all the same.  To survive, we look for answers. Of course, this is a simplification, but the point was that one person could make the difference between the survival or extinction of a people by being in harmony and open communication with the Spirits.  This specialist in Spirit Communication is known today as a Shaman.

We still need the guidance, the knowledge, the Divine connection.  Without our connection to the Universe, we have lost a true and trusted friend, parent, and counselor.  The Universe is always trying to communicate with us.

The images are deeply personal to me.  I was guided by dreams, visions, and experience to design and complete each one.  My influences and training come from Siberia, the Himalayas, Mongolia, Tibetan Buddhism, and the Pacific Northwest.  I do not represent any of the cultures either as an expert or claim that they are my own culture.  I am at best an amateur anthropologist.  It has been a spiritual journey for me and a privilege to share them with you.
